In your life, if you're lucky enough, you are born during a moment in time when the world is ready for the change you're bringing. So, all that's left for you to do is your work. I am glad that the European Development Days and Young Leaders programme was one such platform ready for us to show the change we at Erase All Kittens are bringing to balance the gender divide in tech by empowering young girls to learn coding skills.
Coming from a patriarchal country like India and having experienced living in the UK for the last five years, I see that there is a long way to go to in India to create an equal society for those below the poverty line, for the next generation and for Indian women. In the UK, I have seen that there are a lot of reforms needed to give women the confidence they need to stand equally with men.
I have been working in tech over the last 4 years and I am proud to announce that my start-up is going to establish a Girls Academy to impart coding skills to girls between the ages of 8-13, after a successful pilot workshop that took place in Syria last year.
Meaningful impact for me personally, involves presenting quality education opportunities for the future generations and along with creating a better world for our children, also focusing on creating better children for our world.
During EDD I will be talking about “Women/girls in Digitalisation" based on my experience being involved in as well as spearheading initiatives that promote women in tech and women in digitalisation. My work includes: founding an organization that invites women in STEM to talk about their research in free public science lectures, making a documentary on Women in STEM. In addition, running an event for 200 people which facilitated great networking and led to the Feminist Library in London establishing a year-long programme on helping women learn technical skills.
Living in cities like London we often miss out on media coverage and the exciting innovations happening around the world. I am especially excited that the EDD will bring people from around the world to talk about their work, to be able to present in front of different stakeholders and create the right exchange of knowledge and resources.
